This a drum lesson in which we break down the opening drum beat from the track 'Last Letter', by the band One Day As A Lion, featuring Zack de la Rocha, the vocalist of Rage Against the Machine and Jon Theodore, former drummer of The Mars Volta. This is a cool three bar groove with lots of syncopation and ghost notes to have some fun with. I highly recommend you download the sheet music for this one!
In this lesson, learn the main groove from the song The Sweetest Taboo by Sade. This groove has its roots in Bossa Nova.
Here is a great idea in which we are subdividing 16th notes in to four groups of 3 and one group of 4 played between the hands and kick drum. This concept has a great feel to it and will catch the listener off guard, which is always a good thing. In this lesson we shall be exploring a number of ideas you can use this idea between the kick, snare, and hats. I might do a part 2 and mover the idea around the kit if you want me too. Enjoy, and as always feel free to leave a comment, subscribe, and 'like' if you enjoyed the video.
This lesson shares the technique of echoing the snare, which is playing a ghost stroke after the snare drum stroke to create an echo effect. The beats that follow apply techniques taught in previous lessons in order to build the beat.
In this lesson, we are going to add pairs of snappy 32nd notes between the hi hats to add a bit of spice to our grooves. This is a cool little concept that has been often used by some of my favourite drummers such as Abe Cunningham from Deftones and Travis Barker from Blink 182. This video is also serving as a testrun for future videos with both my drums and voice miked up. Let me know what you think and bare in mind that this is merely a tester.
