Lookog really sweet. I love the looks of your set up. I'm curious as to how that converted tom into a single head snare sounds. Any chance of puting up a clip in the future.

Again...great looking set of tubs you have and your cymbal array looks great too. :IronCobra:

Great looking kit, moshpitmike. I'm slightly biased though, i have the same kit and colour. :D

I have a 13" tom which i'm thinking i'll ditch in a couple of months and order and 8". Much prefer to have 8- 10- 12- 14-16

How do you find the protones with the birch? I never tried them out, took them off straight away and put coated Evans G2's and G1's on.

Thank you guys. I will try and get a sound clip if i can figure out how, but the best way i can describe it would be, it sounds like a jungle snare. Its only an 8 strand snare wire or something so alot of the sound of the tom comes through. Love mixin fills with it and a cow bell, it just works lol.

Yea, the vbx is a good kit despite what some people may think. Although its gonna be hard to try and fill the boots of the export :). I couldnt compare the protones to your evans because i haven't played with the evans heads. But the protones are fine, i have some remo emporoers and i probably wont go back to them.
As for your dilema, if it was me i would get rid of the 13 and get the 8 because i dont like odd numbers lol. But the 8 is a great drum, you can tune it to any pitch and it really makes some great sounds, used to have the 8 and 10 working very well together for fills and the 12 makes a great bridge to the 16. But if you have a 14 aswel i think the 8 is worth giving a go.

Quick update, got a cover plate from pearl to replace the tom mounts on the base drum. Must say, im quite dissapointed with the quality, it's just a plastic cover and up close it doesn't look great. Granted i got it free from my local store due to some persuasive talking but i was expecting a bit more. Still, here's what it looks like anyway

I gotta know how you made the single head snare out of that tom man; I'm tryin to make one from a 13" premier tom; I've seen how a couple other dudes did it but I like the way yours looks, looks easier. If you see this post and can give me some input my email is joshthekook@gmail.com
thanks, Josh.
