I wish I could go as well. Partially to be a drummer amoung drummers all striving for a really great cause. My wife suffers greatly from this ailment. People have no idea of the pain and suffering involved all day every day from this disease. No doubt there will be some speaches that will attempt to explain but you can never truly understand until you see it all day every day up close.
I read an article the other day and although it pertained to Lupus it applied to any progressive disability type disease.
I urge you all to read it simply to understand the needs of those in pain.
This person describes it in a totally new way without getting into any gory details.
The rule in this house is noone gets to take her spoon. (you'll have to read it to understand what that means).
I remember long ago I was driving along and I saw a lady in a car with a flat tire in the bus lane. I was maybe 18 at the time so that was a century or two ago. There was a bus behind her honking and honking it's horn. I pulled a Uturn in the middle of the road and whipped my little volkswagon in front of the bus. I then went to the bus driver and tore a strip off him explaining she had a flat and to go around. I then changed her tire with lightning speed and she thanked me and tried to hand me $20.00 at the same time telling me she had MS. I said, I would have done that regardless and handed her back her money. She looked me in the eye and said "yes, I believe you would"
I did the same for a great many people in my years on the road both on and off work and still do. I always thought that if I got caught stopping and spending company time helping people I might get in trouble. A few years before I retired we had a meeting and they actually gave me an award for helping people as they had received many calls of thanks.
When you do good for someone, it's something they never forget but oddly 35 years later, it's also something I don't forget. When you do good for people, it makes you feel good.
Like Dave Mathews sings. "If you want to live, you've got to give."
So while you`re drumming (REALLY LOUD)just remember there are those who totally Love you for doing this. Those little feel good tingles you get when you do good for people are little gifts from God showing his appreciation for the help. You WILL feel those tingles when you drum for that cause because we`ll al be knocking on heavens gate to make sure you`re seen and acknowledged for doin that for us.
I just thought it would be good know what you're drumming for. Drum really loud would ya.
So much suffering. The article is not graphic or descriptive regarding the suffering. It just makes you understand her day with no whining whatsoever.
Here is a link to that article. Print it up and spread the word. Just go easy on their spoons.
