Here is a video of the Mad Drummer, see if you can figure out the cool bass drum pattern he is playing, it starts at 0:40 but he does it again at 1:56 in the video. What you think he is playing? Is it only doubles or is there a triplet in there?

Thanks All!

Yep, that's a sixteenth note triplet pattern. I wrote it out for you below... The first two slashes just mean to play a beat.

Hope that helps!

Hey Nate, One question, I don't have much experience reading sheet music, are saying the first beat of the triplet is played by the hi-hat? Is the last part on 4 hi-hat and tom together? Can you explain what you wrote? Thanks a lot your site is great!

It's Hi hat and snare on 4, it's just the last half of a bar, so the first half could be just a simple rock beat, bass on 1 and snare on 2.

Hey... just saw this today. Sorry! (not sure how I missed it).

The pattern is... hi hat, bass, bass, hi hat, bass bass... then hi hat and snare together.

So yep, the first beat of the triplet is played on the hi hat along.

An easy way to think about it is to play a straight 8th note pattern... just steady hits on the hi hat. Keep that hi hat speed going while throwing two bass drums in between the hi hat hits. Make sense?

And, glad you enjoy the site! Thanks!
