If it was the Police or Iron Maiden I might be excited but I saw these bands when they were considered great and they were both mediocre live at best. I realize that is just my opinion and I am not trying to rain on your parade at all. I just paid to go see Van Halen earlier this year and got the same response I just gave from some of my younger musician friends. Maybe I am wrong and I hope I am and you had a great time. My VH experience earlier back in April was great. They played one of the best concerts I have ever seen in person. I don't know if you are a VH fan or not Toad but musically they were very dense and there was a lot of shaking my head and giggling like a little kid because there was one musical explosion after another. Can you tell I am an Edward VH fan? Alex was awesome too. They sound a lot fuller with Wolfgang on bass now.

In drumming, there is no right or wrong; just right and left. (Sean Jones)

But............................................

I'd never had the opportunity - or was available to go see KISS in the past.

I've been a fan since 1975 - when my brothers, who were guitar players in a band, were covering ROCK AND ROLL ALL NIGHT and played it at the end of all of their gigs. The first two albums I'd ever purchased were LED ZEPPELLIN's first album and then KISS' Dressed to Kill. I loved both of those albums, and would play both back to back everyday on my drums (I was only 7 years old then).

Over the years....it seemed I was always gigging....or simply not able to go when they came to town. I didn't even know they were in town until Thursday - when my wife texted me that she could get tickets. (I had a club close two weeks ago and ended up with the night off....so I was able to go!) Seems some of the best things that have ever happened to me happened on nights when I was suppose to gig..but then a club closed and I ended up with the night off (it's how I began dating my wife too) .

The opening band was from Cambridge UK - THE TREATMENT - I thought they were pretty good- younger guys, good riffs and reminded me of older Faster **** Cat style stuff - or any other rock bands in the late 80's/90's. (some of us agreed that they may have formed twenty five years too late).

Motley Crue was good......but Tommy Lee was not lit up very well, and he had a drumset/riser that was on a rolloer coaster rail loop. He looped upside down when he did his solo -which was him playing to a tracked techno-dance production. Not a traditional drum solo at all..and he really didn't do much of anything (drumming wise) exepct flip upside down and yell f*%ck 175 times while he was doing it. (meathead crowd seems to love it when these guys yell F**ck) :-

KISS came out - opened with DETROIT ROCK CITY - and were tight, clean and very polished. The sound was perfect, and I Was really impressed. They played a cut off the new album HELL OR HALLELUJAH - and did plenty of old stuff, ilcluding Black Diamond, Shock ME, and Cold Gin.

Pyrotechincs/Lights were cool ....Motely Crue had a neat stage design.....but KISS' was more vintage (like pics I've seen over the years) and there was a lot of FIRE. Crue had flames too....but KISS had 10 times the amount. I sat on the lawn as the seats were sold out. (I like sitting on the lawn anyway)....I could feel the flames from THAT far away....I can imagine how warm it is on stage when those burst of fire go off. Friend of mine who was uo close said it felt like it was singing your face.

All in all - good show. Crue was excellent - KISS was awesome and the opening act was respectable and enjoyable. Largest crowd I'd ever seen at the venue, (I've been to half-dozen shows there in the past). Lot's and lot's of KISS shirts, a few Crue shirts - but the crowd enjoyed both bands, making it very clear that they were there for KISS though.

Oh...and it was hot outside. 112* on the lawn when I got there. :-*

When I was a little Kid....I lived in an area where the closest venue any large group like KISS would play was 4/6 hours drive away in New York City.

I dreamed of seeing them....drew pictures of what I though it would be...and must have played along to KISS ALIVE & KISS ALIVE 2 a thousand times on my drums...pretending to be playing live with KiSS. The live albums were what inspired me to play the drums, and gave me the hunger to play live as I do today....especially after seeing my Brothers band (The Main Street Terrors) for the first time on October 31st, 1974. (I have pics of that night too..somewhere on Photobucket).

Last night.....even now that I'm 45 years old....made me feel like that kid again.

Just awesome.

I wasn't a big fan of Kiss until I saw them when they re-formed the original line up to play Donnington Monsters of rock, and then, I was blown away! it was simply an awesome gig, one of my most memorable :)

I saw Motley on the Dr. Feelgood tour and it was probably the best show I\'ve ever seen. I have also seen them a couple of times in the last 10 years, and it wasn\'t very good. (mainly Vince Neil)
