#355022 Kit upgrade

Posted by caulkie on 22 April 2013 - 11:09 PM

Don't ignore Natal, they are making great kits these days and they are versatlie enough for Pop/funk.  Go to the Natal website and have a gander, the Birch would suit you very well.

#355020 Mr. Crowley by Ozz (Ozzy Osbourne Tribute Band)

No worries mate.  We should all accept improvement as we learn or else we go nowhere.

I'm in the UK and in an Ozzy Tribute band called We Was Ozzy :)

And the irony is, my other nickname is Ozzy because my surname is Osborne (the correct way to spell it)

#354414 SBD latest update ( and Patch too!)

Posted by caulkie on 02 April 2013 - 12:24 PM

I've had a listen (and watch) of the videos of the girls above you Bridie, and most of them in my opinion lack creative flow and are playing along to a track, which kind of dents the fascination of watching a drummer perform.  Some of the top ten, however, are very good.

Your video, on the other hand, showed you in a live performance, which is very much different than just sitting in front of a video camera.

You will impress the judges!!!

Rock on SBD!

Budget cymbals are not designed to take the stress of pro-end cymbals, the same applies with drum-kits too.  If you give them some stick, they will break.  This is just my opinion from experience.  I've broken a cymbal before but it was a cheap and nasty one, so I invested in more professional cymbals.

If you have £80 to invest, get one cymbal off of eBay (or get your Mum to do it)

I know you are going to have a long drumming career, so invest in it.

#351301 New snare, thoughts?

Posted by caulkie on 02 January 2013 - 05:04 PM

I personally think Pearl snare drums are underrated.

I totally agree with that statement.  I have two Signature snares (Tico Torres and Steve Ferrone) and both snares (metal) are awesome, the build quality of Pearl is top notch too.

A high end snare always make a significant difference to your kit, always!

#350570 Anyone ever had any experience with MCX?

Posted by caulkie on 12 December 2012 - 09:19 AM

Ya I have the Artisan. Amazing snare but I'm currently having issues with the bearing edges, they seem to have taken a liking to mold with either diffections in the snare head or my drum stick :/. Amazing snare nevertheless, and they have an all maple model!

Huh???  The bearing edges don't mold and they should never ever come in contact with your sticks ???

#350568 Help me buy a better drum set (Nate? Yellow Toad?)

Posted by caulkie on 12 December 2012 - 09:01 AM

Looks like the Pearl MCX is the reccomended kit for you, but also consider the Mapex Saturn's.  Great kits indeed.  I've sold my recently and reluctantly but I had to.  I've got a DW Collectors kit and a Natal Maple and a Mapex Black Panther Blaster kit.  The Saturn had to go purely because out of all the four kits, the Saturn was identical to the BP Blaster and the BP Blaster has more sentimental value.

Seriously consider a Maple (with inner walnut ply) Mapex Saturn.  Great all rounder kits and they sound awesome too.

is it wrong that I'm jealous? Who of though??!!

It must be me you're jealous of, everyone wants to sleep with Nate :( ;)

Well its not as "Bro Love" as you think.  After PASIC 2008, Nate and I were flying back to Ohio together as I was staying with my(now ex) wife's family in Dayton and Nate lives in North Ohio.  So to cut costs, we shared a hotel room with two single beds.  We had a really early morning flight on the Monday morning

On a song suggestion, I agree with Carox, it has to be a song with some vigour and fun in it, but straight forward too so that no one should feel intimidated.

I have a song in mind, and it's a very cheesy song but known throughout the world and everyone will want to play on it.  There is also a bit of non-drumming parts (like the intro) where if you want to submit a bit of goofing around, or setting up your drums or anything really, you can do it.

The beat is straight forward (with an off beat) and  can be a bit of a challenge but I think we can all do this song.

#350271 DW Edge Kurrilian Birch Regal to Royal Fade

Posted by caulkie on 04 December 2012 - 12:52 PM

I ordered this over a year ago back in August 2011 after witnessing the Chad Szeliga video posted by DW on Youtube.

it is a DW 13x7 Edge with a Kurrilian Birch outer ply in Regal to Royal Fade.

It's quite a funky pingy snare, I've played it a few times and really need to spend the time to tune it in correctly but its still a gorgeous and lovely drum.
