Hey Cowbell Cowboy
I also have the Tama Starclassic B/B kit 10, 12, 16, 24. Stock heads were Evans G2 on batter G1 on reso. I swapped all batters to Aquarian. I am still not quite happy yet with my 16" tom, can't seem to get it to equal the tone of the 10" & 12" toms. I removed the reso head just to get my pitch first, (a little too dead sounding) so with the reso back on it's a little too lively again, which got me thinking. Has anyone ever ported their floor tom reso's? Oh come on you've all ported your bass drums, a 20" bass drum is not that far off an 18" floor tom. I was thinking just a small hole like maybe 1" or so. Thoughts?
Or I was going to try puting an Evans dampening O ring inside the drum laying on top of the reso. Anyone ever done that? Well I think I am going to try it, can't hurt.

I don't play with a ported bass drum. As for your B/B floor tom, it's just a matter of the proper tuning. Evans G2 clear batters and G1 clear resonant heads are just about the perfect combination for those drums. I won't put down Aquarian heads because I never used them, never had the need.
Good luck.
