hey there... so i've got some 14" Z mastersounds that im sorta getting tired of.. they sound great but they're a tad too dark for the genre im playing. a local craigslist random has offered me his 13" zildjian K dry hats to trade for them.

does anyone have these 13" k hats? could someone tell me how they sound? thanks

I just double-checked and for sure there isn't a specific "K Dry" hi-hat that Zildjian makes. The closest would be maybe K Custom Special Dry hats, which you can hear at this link:

They have a good sound--I know Dom Howard from Muse uses these hats so I guess they can be alright in a rock setting, but the 13" size might lack the punch you need if you're playing rock or similar loud styles (especially unmic'd or whatever).

Either way, I can tell you right now whatever that guy has will be wayyyyyyyyyyyy darker than Z Custom hats would be. Z Customs(now Z3s if you are buying new) are Zildjian's brightest cymbals that are designed maximum cut/projection in heavy and loud music, while K's are the darkest and are geared for having complex tone qualities. K Customs have a bit more cut and are drier overall but are still dark.
