For this week's drum lesson we return to the track 'Dysentery Gary', an early Blink 182 track with a cracking little latin groove in the pre-chorus. The groove has an up tempo bossa nova vibe, with right hand alternating between the bell and the ride, and the right foot playing the classic samba pattern.
I have attempted to breakdown the opening groove from the Blink 182 track Dysentery Gary, drummed by Travis Barker. For the sake of teaching this beat, I have crammed all the notes into a single measure and will be using 16th and 8th notes as opposed to two bars of 8th and quarter notes.
For this week's lesson we have got an ever so slightly varied version of the opening drum beat from the new Blink 182 track 'Bored To Death' with Travis Barker on drums. We will be playing solid 16th notes with the hands at a high tempo and so this will prove a great workout for those quick ghost notes.
Travis Barker's creative use of cymbals (china, splash, open hi-hat, and ride bell) feature prominently in Adam's Song – one of Blink 182's most popular singles. This 4 measure phrase is just one of the great beats to be found in this song.
Our full drum sheet music to play along with Adam's Song by Blink 182 from the album Enema of the State (2000).
This two-measure groove (which loops throughout the whole song) features Travis Barker playing with brushes. The slash note-heads in voice 1 represent the brush sweeps - emphasizing the up-beats. The snare, bass and woodblock (x-note-head) parts are notated in voice 2. Striking the rim of the snare is a suitable substitute for a woodblock.
In this week's lesson we have got cool groove in the style of Travis Barker, inspired by the groove from 'First Date' by Blink 182. We start off with a basic pattern and then develop the beat by add some 16th notes, 32nd notes and then finally some open hi hats.
In this weeks lesson we have got a Travis Barker drum beat taken from one of his early recordings with Blink 182. It is a really fun drum beat to play and sounds very percussive as it uses so many parts of the kit. I hope you enjoy it!
This sheet music accompanies Alex Ribchester's video lesson teaching some grooves in the style of Travis Barker.
In this video lesson, we are going to take a look at the cowbell groove from the track 'Feeling This' by Blink 182, featuring Travis Barker on drums. This sweet groove has got a latin style ostinato with the left hand on the cowbell, while your right hand maintains a basic 16th note 4/4 beat on the hats and snare, making this an overall tricky groove to get down. Hope you enjoy!
