Sick Drum Beat! Funk, Rock, and a bit of Hip Hop
This groovy little beat has served me well! It is relatively easy. The tricky part is getting the correct dynamics on the snare drum. You can play around, shifting the accents and ghost notes throughout the beat for some variation. I used this groove for a song in my band The Deadly Tremors, and I have provided a link to the song for you guys to check out the beat in action. When Dave Constantin sat down and played his groove at NAMM 2013, I knew I had to use it and share it with you (with Dave's permission, of course). This groove plays with a funky idea on beat 4, incorporating double strokes with beat 1 on the hi hat completing the 5-stroke roll.
