Black President debut CD
Upon hearing the first proper track on this album, the first being a six second intro that works perfectly with the second titled Last F**ing Hope, the Black President powerhouse, known as Roy Mayorga, kicks off this aggressive but smooth track with more power and speed than a formula one car, and it doesn’t cease into just the next track either. The journey that Black President takes you on is full of twists and turns that any roller coaster designer would be proud of. Christian Martucci’s vocal talents are just as strong as his guitar performances. Both Martucci and fellow guitarist Charlie Paulson work very well together, and the bass of Jason Christopher and Roy Mayorga’s drums are so tight that you would have immense difficulty slipping a bank note into the cleavage of the rhythm section.
This album contains tracks of various lengths and styles befitting the current punk rock scene. The track Not amused is played faster than most people with a high IQ can think, and the question of how can these guys perform a song of such speed with ease leaves the brain pondering.
Tracks like Neon and my favorite, Watch You Drink, are more melodic than the in your face Vacate The Vatican, but do you know what? I don’t care. I don’t care what your parents or my parents think of this cd. I’d be really happy if my nephew rebelled against his parents with this album. I’d certainly buy him a copy to find out. In this current economic climate, certain luxuries need to take a back seat, but I urge you to go out and buy a copy. It’s a must have for your CD rack, and you’ll be finding bruises over your legs from where your air drums have been smashed to pieces as your sticks have to stop someplace. The drumming on this album is inspirational and that is putting it mildly. The whole Black President experience is sealed with a very noteworthy cover of Alice Cooper’sElected.
Black President is a very credible hardcore, punk rock band that don’t have limitations, and if there are any, then I’ve not found them in their self-titled debut album yet. The impressiveness of this collection has most certainly emphasized and proven that Black President are a force to be reckoned with, and I can’t wait for the next album.
