Sunday Bloody Sunday – U2Steve Ley
This instantly recognizable drum groove features alternating 16th notes (RLRL) played between the hi-hat and snare over a 'four-on-the-floor' pulse. Note that the first two notes of the song are played just before the down-beat (anacrusis).
The drums were recorded at the base of a stairwell, a recording technique pioneered by John Bonham to capture the natural reverb. Despite his initial reservation, Larry Mullen Jr relented to the producer’s request to play with a click-track to keep the rhythm tight.
