Walk This Way – Aerosmith

This funky groove paves the way for Aerosmith's classic hit 'Walk This Way' from their 1975 album, Toys in the Attic.
The most distinctive element of the groove is the hi-hat ‘slurp’ sounding on beat 1. Crash cymbals are often heard on beat 1, but hi-hat slurps are more commonly placed shortly before a down-beat, not on it. The following hi-hat note (on the ‘and of 1’) is played in the closed position, which ends the slurp. A closed symbol (+) above the note is redundant, as hi-hats should always be played in the closed position unless otherwise stated, according to the Percussive Arts Society’s recommendations. Following this convention makes drum set notation cleaner and easier to read.
