Syncopated Hi-HatNate Brown
In this lesson, learn a cool drum beat that uses syncopated hi-hat, snare and bass drum strokes.
This drum beat was originally posted on the site in 2007. At that time, the technology that we had didn’t allow for us to manually manipulate the note spacing and voicings, making some of the notation more difficult to read than it should be.
Above is the updated notation, which includes the hi-hat in voice 1 (stems up), and the bass/snare in voice 2 (stems down). Also take note, at the end of the beat there are two sixteenth rests and a sixteenth note in voice 1. This is done to make the relationship between voice 1 and voice 2 clearer. That isn’t necessary, but it seemed to make this notation easier to read on the fly.
