The Pad – Exercise 2

The second of our series of Practice Pad Exercises, this pad workout focuses on double strokes.
DownloadWhile last week’s pad exercise focused on stick control — or in other words, fancy sticking patterns designed to improve your control of the sticks — this week we hone in on the double-stroke roll. A great sounding double-stroke roll is an admirable goal. It takes a special person who’s able to focus on the details and is willing to practice 2 strokes with each hand over and over again.
This pad exercise breaks up the monotony. Let’s face it. We don’t run into a song very often (or ever) that calls for 10 minutes of straight double strokes. We’re much more likely to find shorter rolls, such as 5-strokes, 6-strokes and 9-strokes. These are the double-stroke applications that this week’s exercise tackles.
If you enjoy our Practice Pad Exercises, leave a comment below. We’re considering making them a weekly addition to the site. If you hate them, let us know that, as well. We want to spend our time on resources that motivate you and help you to become a better drummer. Happy practicing!
