The Pad - Exercise 7: Two Surfaces

By Nate Brown

You can use a second practice pad to replace the rim strokes. If you don't have a second pad, setting up an old book or pillow works, too. Moving the practice pads around is a great way to work on agility, which will of course improve your movement around the drum kit.

Depending on where you place the pads, you may have to use crossover techniques where one arm crosses over the other in order to use the correct sticking. That's also a lot of fun and can look cool, as well.
