Bring the Herta to Your Drum Fills

The herta patterns is a fun-to-play, versatile pattern that can be applied to create head-turning drum fills and beats. In this lesson, we're going to take a look at a drum fill application of the herta pattern played as 32nd notes and 16th notes. Traditionally, the herta pattern is played and written as seen below:
The notation below uses a slashed stem (or diddle) technique to indicate where you are to play two 32nd notes. This keeps the notation looking clean. In number 4, we had to explicitly write out the 32nd notes because the second stroke is played on a different drum than the first.
