The rumor is that Collins’ groundbreaking drum sound on the recording was a result of an accident in the studio. Collins played drums while the reverse talkback was activated in the sound room, and it made such an amazing sound that they rewired their board to reproduce it on the record. NOTE: The hi-hat foot, which is overdubbed on the recording and not played by Phil Collins, is notated in the sheet music for your reference in case you’d like to give it a try.
